When Life Gives You Lemons

It's been a while since I last wrote a blog post but I thought today would be a great day to do so. The beginning of 2013 has been very interesting for me so far; from moving back to Philly from Cali, to the ups and downs of building a startup from scratch, to severed friendships and building new friendships as well as everything else in between.

So far in the brief 31 days of this new year, I've experienced: anger, sadness, confusion, frustration and happiness. I questioned things that made sense in 2012 and at times have wondered if God had given me too many things to handle at once.

Regardless of your spiritual preference, there is always that voice inside that tells you whether a decision your making is right or wrong. Some call it intuition others more spiritual call it God. None-the-less when you feel you need that voice the most it suddenly disappears. No matter how many times you call on it, you are met with radio silence. I reached this same point and thought, "well looks like I'm doing this on my own."

Frustration began to kick in and at the point where I thought about giving up on somethings, I stumbled upon a quote, "Silence is not abandonment. It is a test of strength." Upon reading this quote I begin to slowly unravel everything that has happened so far in 2013 and take it into perspective.

I realized - silence is not abandonment, but an opportunity to show something you've learned from your experience. Just like during a test, trial or race; your teacher, coach or mentor is always silent, because it is your chance to prove yourself. The fact that you are being tested proves that you have learned something significant.

With a brand new month comes a brand new set of days to expand upon what I've learned. Though the struggles of life will never end and obstacles will always be thrown my way it's a matter of how I handle them which will define me. These experiences are preparing me for exactly what it is I want out of life.

Life will never go the way you want it to, but don't give up, continue to push forward because the finish line is right around the bend, if you stop running before you turn the corner you will never know how close you were.
