If Everyone Jumped Off A Bridge, Would You?

Whenever I got in trouble as a child at school, my parents used to ask me this question, if everyone jumped off a bridge would you? My response would be the same every time. "Well if everyone else is, I probably would too. Were you ever asked this question as a child? I'm sure your answer didn't differentiate too much from mine.

Now that I'm older and and my mindset has changed, my answer is different. If the everyone in the world jumped off a bridge, the world would be a lonely place, but I wouldn't be alone. There would be others that also thought not to jump off the bridge for various reasons, someone would think of the idea to build a net under the bridge so people can't jump to their deaths. Someone would think of building the walls of the bridge higher so that people can't jump off. Someone has to repair the bridge, someone has to keep track of visitors to the bridge. The point I'm trying to make is that 99% of the world may do the same thing, but that 1% thinks differently.

The video that I posted underneath sums up the ability to think differently. It defines the journey for any entrepreneur, musician, sales person, dancer, actor, the list goes on. If you were to look up determination in the dictionary, this gentleman's face should show underneath it. The drive and motivation he displays is beyond words.

In the video above, when peppered with questions or taken as a joke, he continued to excel and maneuver to make the sale and to create a connection. Now a lot of people will say, oh I hate sales or starting a business isn't for me or being a singer, dancer, or designer is too much work, I want to get in shape but working out is painful! And to you I say, thats okay, but would you rather do something you hate everyday for the rest of your life or challenge the status quo and do what excites you.

What does determination mean to you? When your alarm goes off at 6am telling you its time to wake up for that workout out or to head to that job you hate, what is pushing you? What is your "why."Are you doing this to make a health change in your life,  are doing it to feed your family or to save up to go after your goals? Ladies and gentleman, don't falter. If you don't take anything else away from this video, I hope you take this; no matter the situation, no matter the obstacle you can make it! Everyday that you are breathing on this planet is a day that you have to become one step closer to your dream. Sacrifices will be made, friends and family will be lost, challenges will come your way, but don't stop, push through it. Whatever your end goal is, the journey to success will prepare you for the road after success.

The road to success will not be smooth, it will be bumpy, but there is a reason why there is so much room at the top. That's because the majority of society is okay with being medicore. In all actuality, doing the unrealistic is easier then doing the realistic. 99% of people in the world are brainwashed into thinking they are not capable of achieving great things, as a result they aim to be mediocre. Are you making the connection? If 99% of people are attempting to go after the same thing, the level of competition is fiercest to attain realistic goals compared to those going after "unrealistic" goals and dreams.

So I will end with this, if everyone jumped off a bridge, would you?

When Life Gives You Lemons

It's been a while since I last wrote a blog post but I thought today would be a great day to do so. The beginning of 2013 has been very interesting for me so far; from moving back to Philly from Cali, to the ups and downs of building a startup from scratch, to severed friendships and building new friendships as well as everything else in between.

So far in the brief 31 days of this new year, I've experienced: anger, sadness, confusion, frustration and happiness. I questioned things that made sense in 2012 and at times have wondered if God had given me too many things to handle at once.

Regardless of your spiritual preference, there is always that voice inside that tells you whether a decision your making is right or wrong. Some call it intuition others more spiritual call it God. None-the-less when you feel you need that voice the most it suddenly disappears. No matter how many times you call on it, you are met with radio silence. I reached this same point and thought, "well looks like I'm doing this on my own."

Frustration began to kick in and at the point where I thought about giving up on somethings, I stumbled upon a quote, "Silence is not abandonment. It is a test of strength." Upon reading this quote I begin to slowly unravel everything that has happened so far in 2013 and take it into perspective.

I realized - silence is not abandonment, but an opportunity to show something you've learned from your experience. Just like during a test, trial or race; your teacher, coach or mentor is always silent, because it is your chance to prove yourself. The fact that you are being tested proves that you have learned something significant.

With a brand new month comes a brand new set of days to expand upon what I've learned. Though the struggles of life will never end and obstacles will always be thrown my way it's a matter of how I handle them which will define me. These experiences are preparing me for exactly what it is I want out of life.

Life will never go the way you want it to, but don't give up, continue to push forward because the finish line is right around the bend, if you stop running before you turn the corner you will never know how close you were.
